Tips from the Tailgate: Little Potatoes-Big Business

We all know a good start doesn’t guarantee a good finish; but without a good start you rarely get a banner performance. That’s why I’m excited to share these. Roy Zellmer and I visited a Little Potato operation last week (5 separate field trials), there is no doubt the addition of 1.5 gallons of CXPro into 22+/- gallons of their standard 10-34-0 mix at row has made a difference in tuber development on these Little Potatoes.
The “little potato” industry is relatively new in WI with much to learn about what is required for size consistency and flesh quality. However, potato growers using multi-specie biology in CX-1 over the past few years have said “I always get paid top dollar for the loads I send in”.

The picture on the top left shows a very visible sign (see arrow) of compacted fertilizer in the soil, which is inhibiting root growth. After just 5 weeks, CXPro with food source helped flush out the layer (top right picture), allowing for healthier root growth.
